In the first two Ladder Seasons for Diablo II: Resurrected, we were able to see just how skilled your explorers were at defending Sanctuary as they competed to be the first to etch their names on the Leaderboard. While doing so, they struck fear into the hearts of their tormented adversaries that were working against them in the process.

The third season of the Ladder will start on February 16, ushering in a new opportunity for daring explorers to compete to reach level 99 as quickly as possible and collect potent loot along the way. We cannot wait to see how the eight new Rune Words will affect the leaderboard and, hopefully, how they will give new players a chance to see their name on it for the first time. In the meantime, we are eagerly anticipating their release.

With the beginning of Ladder Season Three, we will also be implementing changes to the availability of Sundering Charms, existing Rune Words, and new Horadric Cube Recipes. The sections that follow will provide you with additional details regarding these topics.

In keeping with how it has been in previous seasons, Ladder Season Three will include four distinct game modes:

Version Description

Pre-ExpansionLadderThe traditional form of playing Ladder, which consists of using only the game's first four acts.

Pre-ExpansionHardcore LadderThe most difficult form of playing Ladder, known as "only one life," this version of the game includes only playing with the first four acts.

LadderThe default version of Ladder play, which includes the content from the "Lord of Destruction" expansion pack. This version allows players to play through all five acts of the game.

Hardcore LadderThe "Lord of Destruction" expansion content is included in this "hardcore" version of Ladder play, which restricts players to a single life and requires them to play through all five acts.

Those of you who are unfamiliar with Ladder Seasons may be curious about what happens to the loot in your Shared Stash once the current season has concluded.

After the conclusion of Ladder Season Two, each character on Ladder will be moved to the non-ladder group that best fits their personality. A check mark in the Past box indicates that all of the items in that character group's shared stash have been moved to a new set of Shared Stash tabs labeled "Withdraw Only."At this time, you will be unable to retrieve any items from Ladder Season One that have been stored in the Withdraw Only tabs. You will have access to the entire Ladder Season Three to remove any items from Season Two that you would like to keep for yourself. When Ladder Season Three comes to an end, any items that were stored in the Ladder Season Three Shared Stash will take precedence over this particular set of withdraw-only stash tabs. Make it a priority to retrieve any items you need before then, or else they will be gone for good!

A Total of Eight New Runic Words

The mystery behind rune words lies in the fact that each one, on its own, possesses a significant amount of power, but when spoken together, they unleash an even more potent energy. You can turn your ordinary items into a destructive force that is capable of smiting demon hordes by invoking these ancient forces and allowing them to transform your items.

For both the Ladder and Offline Single-Player modes, we have added a total of eight new Rune Words. With the addition of these new Rune Words to Diablo II, we hope to accomplish the following:The purpose of Resurrected is to introduce some new elements of strategy into the competitive metagame, giving players the chance to come up with innovative plans as they compete to reach level 99. The vast majority of these Rune Words are geared toward improving resistance bonuses, while the remaining Rune Words concentrate on increasing movement speed and enhancing assassin and druid builds respectively.

We decided to keep things the same with Bulwark, Temper, and Ground because we liked how they were currently set up.

Due to the limited scope of Cure's applications, we decided to augment it with the Cleaning Aura in order to make it more versatile. Take note that the item's base Poison Duration reduction has decreased, but the inclusion of Cleansing Aura has resulted in a positive net change to the item's Poison Duration reduction.

Hearth: In order to expand upon the premise of this Rune Word, we gave it a little bit more oomph in order to solidify it as a viable option for gear when dealing with foes that deal Cold Damage. This was done in order to make it more of a go-to option.

The majority of the comments and suggestions that were provided concerned the armor form. The majority of our efforts were concentrated on bettering that form, but we also noticed that there was room for improvement in the weapon form. When it came to the Armor, one of our goals was to give it a greater offensive utility while also including some defensive stats in the form of All Resistances. We wanted to improve the weapon so that using it as a primary weapon was a more appealing option in order to increase its viability above and beyond the utility it had before the buff.

Metamorphosis: We took a step in the direction of giving Metamorphosis a very minor stat boost. We want this Rune Word to be able to truly compete with others in its slot for "best in slot" status for Shapeshifter Druids.

Mosaic: When it came to improving the power of the Mosaic Rune Word, we put all of our eggs in one basket. We wanted to give you more options, so we made the chance that you won't use up your charges higher from 25 percent to 50 percent. This gives you the option to either wield one weapon to get that 50 percent chance or dual wield to get that 100 percent chance of not using up your charges. We also added an additional effect to how the interaction between not consuming charges and charge maintenance works.
